The Extreme 18" Aluminum Scope

Mirror Box

Modified the leading bottom edge to lower the final height of the eyepiece by 2"

Mirror cell is complete (triangles), tailgate needs sling mounts and bumpers yet

Here's a bottom view of the mirror box

This time around I have 2 helpers! Billy's the lead engineer and Kelly's into project cash management

The mirror cell sub-assemblies on a mock 18" mirror. Luaun's not very reflective

One of the corners

Routing the 24" altitude bearings from 3/4" 13-ply Baltic Birch plywood

My lead engineer asking what's taking me so long

Here's how to slice the bearings equally, screw it to a scrap piece previously ripped to the exact dimension

Power is provided by a 7AH sealed lead acid battery that rides in one corner of the mirror box. This would provide about 12 hours if the fan and the dew circuit were on continuously. It is held in by friction on the slightly narrowed angle aluminum tracks.

Here's the extent of my wires to trip over. The rocker switch on the left controls the fan and the other controls the secondary dew heater. Wiring for that runs up through one of the truss poles. It connects at both ends by phone (as in headphone) plugs. This picture was taken before I installed the kydex "door" seen in the first pic.
